Re-Occurring Yearly Events

Sukiyaki

Occurring in late March, our Sukiyaki Fundraiser is held in the temple social hall and open to the public. Sukiyaki is a typical, contemporary Japanese stew featuring thinly sliced meat, vegetables, noodles and tofu. Other options like chicken teriyaki are also served. You are welcome to enjoy food as a dine-in expereince or as a take out option.

Obon Fesitval

Obon is our summer festival usually held early August. This is a time of year where we are called to reflect on all those who came before us and consider what they gave to our world so we could be here today.

Dancing (open to everyone!) occurs on the street in front of the temple in a large oval. Taiko drumming and other entertainment are interspersed. There are several food options from teriyaki and unagi bowls, somen noodles, and shaved ice. Additionally, there is a beer garden and candlelight memorial that lasts all night.

Whether you dress in traditional Japanese attire or your best beachwear, everyone is encouraged to “just dance.” Setting our egos aside, we find kindness in everyone’s care toward each other and dance joyfully in gratitude.

Fall Bazaar

Occuring in early November, our Fall Bazaar Fundraiser is held in the temple social hall. We serve Japanese-style beef curry and rice or udon noodle soup as a pre-order option. Pick-up to go or feel free to dine in while you shop.

Additionally, we have the rummage sale of Japanese dishware, a large selection of kimonos and accessories, and gifts. Select fall veggies and homemade goods, and our Bake Sale, including daifuku mochi and other baked goods prepared at the temple and by members.
